With the development of democratization of Education and the promotion of teaching reform and life-long learning concept, parents’ participation in school administration has become the focus topic in the society. In many western countries, government and school put a lot of manpower and materials into developing the relationship between parents and school. They ensure the implementation from legal protection, establishment of related institutions, renewal of assessment system and the development of internal construction. In comparison, because of the late start, the research and practice on parents’ participation in school administration in our country is still in exploring stage. We should do further searching and extension on the theoretical research, policy support and practice improvement.In order to find out the currents situation and existing problems on parents’ participation in school administration, this study reviews the theoretical and practical results in this field at home and abroad by using document analysis. The researcher did questionnaire and interview on800parents and16teachers from three primary schools in Shantou City to investigate the current cooperative situation, their knowing and attitude on parents’participation in school administration, some approaches for participation, communicating content between teachers and parents, existing conditions and obstacles. In the end, this study summarizes the reasons for the predicament and put forward some coping strategies.The results of the research are as follows:Parents and teachers show positive attitude to the parents’ participation in school administration. However, both of them are lack of integral knowing and active behavior. Parents with different sex, grade, education degree and job have different attitude and behavior in parents’ participation in school administration. The reasons for this predicament are unprogressive development of civil society, restriction of school organization, high pressure for the parents and teachers, immature knowing and behindhand cooperative system. Therefore, it is necessary to change the parents and teachers’ concept on participation, strengthen outer guarantee and improve inner system for better understand and cooperation.
