On The Characteristic Discipline Construction Of Local Colleges Based On The Ascension Of Core Competitiveness

With China’s higher education popularization process accelerating, local colleges realized the unprecedented big development. By the end of2011, local colleges have reached2194, accounted for95%of the total number of the national colleges. At the same time, market elements are getting into the higher education field gradually, and the competition is also becoming increasingly fierce among the colleges. But from whole, at home and abroad, the research of college’s core competence is still in the primary stage. It’s very significant to explore how local colleges obtain comparative advantage of discipline construction in the fierce higher education competition and realize the sustainable development.Based on the local colleges as the research object, this paper discusses the core competitiveness based on the characteristic discipline construction problems.Firstly, from the definition of local college, characteristic discipline, discipline construction, etc., through the methods of literature analysis, etc., apply the concept of enterprise core competitive to college developing strategic planning and competitiveness growing. Systematacially analyze the relationship among local college’s core competence elements, related theory of characteristic discipline construction, core competence improvement and characteristic discipline construction. And propose the related countermeasures proposing on strengthening characteristic discipline construction.On the research basis of local university’s core competence and characteristic discipline construction related theory and their relationship, the3local colleges which are Ningbo University, Wenzhou University and Shaoxing University are selected as cases. Analysis the relevant experience and practice of how local colleges promote the core competitiveness based on characteristic discipline construction. For examples, Ningbo University mainly constructs the characteristic disciplines which are close ties to the social economic development, such as aquaculture, communication and information and engineering mechanics; Wenzhou University regards the characteristic discipline construction as the key point to impel transition of college; Shaoxing University innovates management mode, strengthens scientific research, highlights the discipline characteristics on Chinese language literatures and calligraphy relying on regional culture, and constructs the textile science and engineering discipline based on the local economy. Based on the analysis of above, it shows that discipline construction is the key to promote college’s core competence. And if local colleges want to improve the overall level of discipline construction, they must be based on local economic and social development needs, form and highlight discipline characteristic advantage, reform and innovate management mode, cultivate and develop the discipline group, drive the overall development of the discipline construction with characteristic discipline development as a breakthrough, and achieve the final goal of promotion of local colleges’ core competitiveness.Based on the research of local college’s core competence, characteristic discipline construction and their relationship, combined with the universal enlightening experience extracted from case analysis, in view of local colleges how to strengthen the characteristic discipline construction and enhance their core competitiveness, and from the guiding ideology, the external environment and internal condition and security system, etc., this paper proposes the ideas and countermeasures as follow:First, in the college development strategy planning, stick to the scientific view of development, pay attention to local colleges characteristic discipline construction; Second, considering the regional and local universities functions, the local colleges’ characteristic discipline construction should reflect regional interaction development; Third, characteristic discipline construction should closely around highlight features, realize the different development and dislocation competition; Fourth, to respect talented person, it is with the person this, strengthen discipline leaders and academic team construction; Fifth, in the process of construction need to pay attention to feedback and correction, establish and perfect the discipline construction, performance evaluation system.
