This article is to discuss about the intermediate professional fine art education atthe moment, and it is based on the in-depth and careful observation, analysis, arrangement and comparison in various aspects of the two extremely characteristicintermediate professional fine art education schools which are the Fine Arts SchoolAffiliated to China Central Academy of Fine Arts and Dalian No.15Middle School, especially in the differences of courses. In light of the current education situation and education system of China at thepresent stage, it is impossible for the schools that provide intermediate professional fineart education not to consider such factors as entrance to higher school and collegeentrance examination in their courses. It is because that the college entranceexamination sets a standard for the fine art subject, a standard for admittance to higherfine art colleges. Therefore, at a level lower than of universities and colleges, theintermediate professional fine art schools that are to delivery fine art talents for higherfine art colleges, must prepare adequately for taking examinations to meet this standard, otherwise the students will lose opportunities. As a result, in the courses of theintermediate professional fine art school, there is no way to neglect the examination andentrance to higher school, but focus on fine art quality trainings. However it isobviously far from enough if only teaching the students the exam-oriented fine art skillsin courses during the stage of intermediate professional fines art education. As thefuture fine art professionals, the students should have a wide and profound thought andthe gradually improved nature of mind, if which can not be embodied in the courses, theintermediate professional fine art education will thus lose its true significance and value.Consequently,“exam-orientation” and “quality” carry equal weight in implementing thecourses of intermediate professional fine art education. Theoretically speaking, the twofactors are not in conflict. All the professional fine art education is an issue of skills, and the so-called “exam-oriented education” is just to examine the skills, anexamination with standard and index. If you fail to reach the standard, it indicates thatyou are lack of quality, because you will certainly meet the requirements of“exam-oriented education” if you have enough “quality”. Just it is not easy to balancethe “quality” and “exam-orientation” in real practice of the courses, for it is unable toattend to everything at the same time. Both schools analyzed in this text grasp the context that “quality” weights equallywith “exam-orientation” in courses. Due to the differences in objective and contentemphasis in courses, as well as the ways and means of implementing courses, naturallythey will be different in results. The courses of Dalian No.15Middle School bestdemonstrates what an exam-oriented intermediate professional fine art school can do.The proud enrollment rate is the best proof for that. However it does not mean thecourses of this school are better than those of the Fine Arts School Affiliated to ChinaCentral Academy. Putting the paintings of students at the same grade of both schoolstogether, you will feel the difference overall, that is, the artistic expression of thepaintings of students from the Fine Arts School Affiliated to China Central Academy isbetter than that of Dalian No.15Middle School. In the same turn, we cannot decidefrom this that the courses of the Fine Arts School Affiliated to China Central Academyis more suitable for the intermediate professional fine art education. As a matter of fact, with respect to the courses of the intermediate professional fine art education, the key isto see what the aim is set by the executors of the intermediate professional fine arteducation and how they balance between the exam-orientation and quality.
