The researchofthis topic is about the combination ofart andengineering teaching modeabout industrial design major, some of them is based on school of design Jiangnan Universityas an example. Industrial design major is an application disciplines which focus oninterdisciplinary, stressed the combination of art and technology, stressed the integration of theliberal arts and engineering, stressed the fit of design and production, stressed the combinationof the talent and market. In Engineering College, industrial design professional students paymore attention to the technical performance of the professional, but in art colleges, students paymore attention to the thought of the idea of artistic ability and the cultivation of the arts.Jiangnan University has begun to implement the combination of art and engineeringteaching mode many years ago, it uses "double track system" to end the arguments aboutwhich is more important for industrial design major,"art" or " engineering ".This paper through doing research in the development of industrial design specialtyintroduction and the of the development of the combination of art and engineering teachingmode about industrial design major and the connotation, the curriculum, the teaching methods,teaching idea of the combinationofartand engineering teaching mode, so we can understandthe connotation and theory of this teaching mode. This paper through reviewing the history ofthe formation of the combination of art and engineering teaching mode of design JiangnanUniversity, can be more clearly understand the development history of the combinationof artand engineering teaching mode in China. As a miniature of Chinese design education, theteaching mode valued the "art" more than the engineering at first, then ran to thecombinationofart andengineering, till now turn to the combinationofart andengineeringresearch-based teaching mode. Construction of a complete, diversified teachingmode.Through the comparative study of "three type" and " combinationofartand engineering" teaching mode, discuss the advantage of the combinationof art and engineering teachingmode. Discuss some problems existing in the design of professional teachers, students,enterprises and the school system of higher education in China.This paper put forward some suggestions in how to build a scientific and reasonableteaching mode in the end. I think we should focus on the establishment of a new curriculumreform, construct the knowledge system, transformate thecurriculum knowledge, integrate theinterdisciplinary curriculum, To improve the students’ ability of put the professionalknowledge together to make it complete and understand thoroughly of it. Teachers shouldbalance the relationship of the three, practice, research and teaching. The changing ofappraisal system is to change the unreasonable place about the teachers, students and theteaching appraisal. In summary, recognize the focus of reform, establish a perfect knowledgesystem, pay attention to practice, each one tries his best to build a good platform for thecombinationof art and engineering which is a representative of the teaching models.
