Research On Specialty Provision Of Higher Vocational Colleges In Shanxi

Being employment-oriented and market-oriented, higher vocational education is one of the important parts of higher education and the connecting point of vocational positions demand and schools. The specialty provision of higher vocational schools is a systematic project of great significance, its quality not only directly concerns the survival and development of higher vocational schools as well as the quality of talents cultivated by higher vocational education, but also to some extent affects the social positions’division, students’employment and even people’s livelihood and stability of the society. As a result, the specialty provision of higher vocational schools attracts attentions from many researchers. However, until now there’s still no research on the specialty provision of higher vocational schools. Accordingly, the paper starts from the basic situation of the specialty provision of higher vocational schools in Shanxi and compares the differences between those of domestic higher vocational schools and overseas higher vocational schools, based on using the documentary method to collect, arrange and analyze the relative materials. After that, the paper stresses the drawbacks in the specialty provision of higher vocational schools in Shanxi and puts up with suggested strategies to improve the specialty provision of higher vocational schools in Shanxi by using relative theories, combining the practical needs of the development in Shanxi, and drawing lessons from other districts’advanced ideas and methods.Firstly, the paper reviews briefly the higher vocational education in Shanxi and makes a statistical analysis of the specialty provision of higher vocational schools in Shanxi from three aspects, namely, the existing specialty layout and structure, the adaptation of specialty structure and industrial structure, and the student number of each specialty in higher vocational schools. The main features achieved are as follows:a relatively large amount of engineering and finance schools, a comparatively complete specialty category, an increasing specialty amount and an enlarging specialty scale.Secondly, the paper analyzes the existing problems and their causes in the specialty provision of higher vocational schools in Shanxi. The problems concluded mainly are in those three aspects:the weak adaptation of specialty structure and industrial structure, the serious problem of duplication in specialty and the imbalance in the development of specialty scale. The problems mentioned above are mainly caused by the deviation in understanding the higher vocational education, the lack of scientific methods to predict the social needs for talents, the inaccurate positioning of specialties, the lack of money input and inadequate supervision and guidance from educational officials to higher vocational schools.Lastly, the paper puts up with the principles by which the specialty provision of higher vocational schools should abide and the strategies for optimizing the specialty provision of higher vocational schools in Shanxi. The principles include the principle of region, the principle of feasibility, the principle of perspectives, the principle of characteristics and the principle of flexibility. The strategies mainly consist of three parts:firstly, adjusting the specialty provision according to the needs of Shanxi’s economic and social development; secondly, enhancing the macroeconomic regulation and control to avoid the problem of duplication in specialty; thirdly, scientifically setting up new specialties and reasonably expanding their scales.
