In recent years, as the enrollment of postgraduates has been constantly expanding at alarge scale in general institutes of higher education in China, the proportion of Master DegreeCandidates in college graduates is increasing year by year. However, the training mode andquality are relatively unsatisfying. At present, the employment situation of postgraduates isunoptimistic, and it is quite common for them to wait for employment or change their jobsfrequently. Therefore, as high-end graduates, they need to master some knowledge relatedwith career planning.All over the world, career planning education in colleges has been an important means toimprove the development of college students’ individual career life and to obtain effective andreasonable employment. Career planning of undergraduates has also been given attention to incolleges. Moreover, some even offer special career planning courses to train students.However, such training for postgraduates is quite rare. There exists such a misunderstanding:as highly-educated intellectuals, postgraduates receive better education than undergraduatesand junior college students; with less number and higher ability, the social demand forgraduates must exceed the supply. Yet, this is not the fact.In contrary to the increasing number, the employment rate of postgraduates has beenlower than that of undergraduates and junior college students for three years. We should notoverlook the following problems: graduation of postgraduates means unemployment; the quitrate of postgraduates has been increasing annually; the social labor market is polarizing.Based on the current situation of career planning education for postgraduates in China, theauthor studies the development progress of career planning, the developing situation at homeand abroad, and the various problems we are facing in career planning education. The author hopes to offer special suggestions for improving and promoting the career planning educationsystem for postgraduates in our country.Chapter One overviews the research background and its significance, and analyzes thecurrent research situation at home and abroad. The author concludes that at present the currentemployment situation of postgraduates in China is unoptimistic, and career planningeducation for postgraduates in colleges is far from enough. By analyzing the mentality ofthose who register for postgraduate education and employment psychology of postgraduatesat school, the author realizes that developing career planning education for postgraduatesplays an important role in helping postgraduates choosing and constantly developing theircareer. Aiming at the special group-postgraduates, we should combine foreign advancedexperience with domestic condition, thus developing career planning education system forpostgraduates with Chinese characteristics.Chapter Two puts forward the special concept of “career anchor” by analyzing andinducing the concept of career planning and its related theories.Chapter Three analyzes the current situation of career planning education for postgraduates in China. It also carries on research and offers argument in the respect of collegesystem, structure, depth of theoretical research and teaching faculty. Based on the theories, itis realized that career planning education for postgraduates in our country is far from enough,which brings postgraduates poor career planning at school and confusing career planning afterstepping into society.Chapter Four researches the development situation and advantages of career planningeducation for postgraduates in foreign developed countries, namely, America, Germany,England and Japan. Among them, the situation in America is introduced in detail, which doesthe best in this aspect.Finally, by discussing the problems we are currently facing in career planning education for postgraduates, researching the advanced and effective methods applied in foreigncountries, and based on the domestic current situation and national culture, this paper offers aspecial and proper way of developing career planning education for postgraduates in ourcountry.Based on half a year’s document research, the author’s own training experience in careerplanning education for one year, and three years’ practical experience in postgraduate studentwork, the author realizes that currently postgraduates in our country have a poorunderstanding and don’t do well in such aspects as degree of self awareness, expectation andcognition degree of career life. Similarly, the relevant teaching service offered by colleges isnot satisfying, either. Following his own psychological features like interest, value theory andlife philosophy, the author summarizes the problems postgraduates are currently facing incareer planning, and offers corresponding suggestions. It is hoped that this paper cancontribute to present postgraduates’ career planning in our country, and offer valuable advicefor colleges in forming training system and tutoring mode.
