Career Planning Theory originated from the western countries at the beginning of the20thCentury. Meanwhile some career guidance theories and professional skill assessmentinstruments were rapidly developed and applied in UK, French, German, Japan and thecountries of former Soviet Union. From the end of20thcentury to the beginning of the21stcentury, career planning education and guidance has been applied broadly in the schoolsand universities of US, UK and Canada. However, the career planning education andpractice in China are still in infancy. It is a common recognition that the university is thecradle of the talents which should guide the allocation of human resources to respond forthe market demands and to maximize the value of the postgraduate students. Thus, it isnecessary to carry out a general career planning education for the postgraduate students inforestry and agricultural universities. How to enhance their career planning awareness, andimprove their social adaptability has become an urgent problem to be solved.In this paper, five problems on the forestry and agricultural university students’ careerplanning process are discovered after practical research. Focusing on these problems, theauthor investigated the causations and sought for improvement methods so as to maximizethe students’ utilization and realize their social value.This paper is divided into four parts. The first part is preface. In this part, thebackground and significance of this research were described from three aspects: thestudents, the university, and society. The domestic and foreign literatures about careerplanning were reviewed, and the existed career planning theories were adopted in this part.The second part is practical research. In this part, the author did a survey on the currentcareer planning situation of postgraduate students from four universities. The features ofthe forestry and agricultural university students’ career planning are generalized afteranalyzing five problems exists in the situation. The third part is the causation investigation.Based on the practical research, the author examined the causations from the students, theuniversities and the social factors. The fourth part offered solutions. On the basis ofresearch in the first three parts, the fourth part explored the way to improve the forestryand agricultural university students’ career planning situation and provided feasiblesolutions.
