In the middle school stage, learning mathematics requires that students be able to not only work out the mathematics problems but also understand mathematical formulas and theorems as well as the thinking methods which they contain. But we find a common phenomenon that students can solve the mathematics problems without understanding them. So it’s important and necessary that we study its cause to eliminate or reduce the phenomenon.This research mainly adopts three research methods:literature analysis, case analysis and survey method.Based on the questionnaires to teachers and interviews with students, the causes of the phenomenon, which result from how the teachers teach and how the students study,are found and analyzed in this article. According to the causes that have been found, this article presents teaching and learning strategies.The measures that teachers should take include further studying the curriculum standard and textbook,digging deeper into the content of the textbook, further learning scientific teaching methods. What the students should do is mastering th-e essential, processing and structural characteristics of the knowledge with teachers guiding. The suggestions are put forward that the teaching problem be solved by taking comprehension teaching approaches such as finding the roots of concepts, formulas and theorems; understanding the souls of concepts, formulas and theorems; designing the problem elaborately; displaying dynamic process; exploring the denotation and connotation of concepts, formulas and theorems with scaffold set reasonably; designing and constructing vivid models and reasonable circumstances; absorbing the essences of concepts, formulas and theorems; digesing mathematical thoughts,etc.This research helps to systematically analyze the causes of the phenomenon that students can solve the mathematics problems without understanding and fundamentally eliminate the phenomenon.Therefore it has positive, practical significance in teaching.
