In the information age, the information technology With network and multimedia has penetratedinto the education sector, and broken the traditional way of teaching. The students especially theUniversity students have more and more access to information,then, great changes have taken place intheir way to learning. In this competitive time, who can occupy the information and make good use of it,who will be able to hold the development advantage. The University students are a strong reserve force forthe development of a country, and their ability of information have great influence on the country’s future.So study on the University students’ ability of information is an important subject.In this study, I have deeply researched the university students’ ability of information throughreading the literature, interviewing with others and granting the questionnaire. First of all, this studyexpound the relationship between the information ability and the information literacy. Since theinformation literacy has been introduced to our country, many scholars have researched and put forwardtheir views on its definition and contents. Synthesize various opinions, the information literacy has fourcontents, include the Information consciousness, the information knowledge, the information ability andthe information morality.The information ability as the core of the information literacy is the object of thisstudy. The second, this study expound the evaluation criteria of the information literacy, in order to seekthe evaluation criteria of the information ability. Many scholars have put forward their views on theconsist of the information ability, after analyzed the evaluation criteria of the information literacy, I thinkthe university students’ information ability should include the information-obtaining capacity, Informationprocessing capacity(Including the evaluation of information and refactoring the information), and theAbility of applying information(including management and exchange the information).As a level of information literacy, Information ability don’t has itself evaluation criteria, In orderto have an In-depth research the level of university students’ information ability, I analyzed the ACRLevaluation standard and the evaluation standard of the universities in Beijing, and I think evaluationstandard of the university students should be consisted with three dimensions: information-obtainingcapacity, Information processing capacity and the Ability of applying information. So according to these three dimensions, I set up the questionnaire in order to know the level of university students’ informationability. I n addition, the computer course is an important way to access the knowledge of information,and it has great influence on the level of university students’ information ability. So I set some questionsabout computer courses and the hope for their ability. I issued180questionnaires, including freshman tosenior students, then analyzed the data by SPSS17.0.In conclusion,the university students’ information-obtaining capacity is poor, many studentsdon’t know how to use advanced searching, so that they feel confused when face to the vast information;the university students’ Information processing capacity is poor too, many students judging theinformation by themselves but not communicating with others.And many students use it directly with nochanging. In the ability of applying information, most students only can communicate information by thesimple words, for the other powerful software, they have many huge problems. And only a handful ofstudents will manage their information in detail. At the same time,many students said the knowledge istoo old, and they have no interest in it.According to the problems of the university students’ information ability, I put forward someimprovement suggestions, and look forward the future of it.
