This thesis, triggered off by the phenomena of suicide and harm committed bysenior high school students, is a study on the present situation of moral education oflife(hereafter as MEL) of senior high school students, aiming at discovering theproblems, analyzing the causes, and finally proposing directional suggestions. It isboth theoretically and practically meaningful.After defining several relevant concepts, the author combs the thoughts andpractice concerning MEL in foreign countries and China, from past to contemporary;and also summarizes the overview of studies on this theme from aspects of itsproposition, meaning, objectives, contents and practice. Then, on the basis of bodilyand mental features of senior high school students and the program of ChineseMinistry of Education, using other researchers’ study as reference, the authorconstructs a system of aims, contents and principles of MEL of senior high schoolstudents.Then keeping the aims, contents and principles of MEL in mind the authordesigns the questionnaire to students and interview outline to teachers. Three generalsenior high schools of Jiyuan City, Henan Province, are chosen as the objects of thequestionnaire and interview. The questionnaire involves mainly with four aspects:namely the practice of MEL, the life moral attainment of teachers and that of studentsand the students’ assessment and expectation to MEL. The interview examinesteachers’ understanding and doing of MEL, and their attitudes and suggestions toMEL.According to the questionnaire and interview, the present situations of MEL areas follows: the practice of MEL is weak, weather quantitatively or qualitatively; mostteachers are not very qualified in MEL and teacher resources are in shortage; the lifemoral attainment of students are not enough. Causes to these problems are explainedby family, school, social circumstances and students interwovenly. Finally, thedirectional suggestions are given from aspects of school education, family education,and social supports, and school education is considered to be the most important.Concretely speaking, schools can take such measures: opening special courses ofMEL, strengthen the trainings of teachers’ life moral, building a teacher-student relationship of teachers’ concern for students, constructing a MEL-centered schoolculture, establishing a mentally advisory network of multi-level and all-dimension, etc.However important, to be effectually helpful, school’s MEL needs the cooperation offamily and society.
