Private academy of classical learning has most glamorous and authentic meaning in thehistory of China’s academy of classical learning.Firstly, from three aspects of naturalgeography, social culture and regional spirit, the study briefly analyzes historical and culturalheritage of the middle and south Hebei province. After a brief introduction of natural territory,the middle and south Hebei culture and the regional spirit, the dissertation studies the historyof education of private academy in the middle and south Hebei. With the analysis of language,the “new cultural history” and the “view of ancient history in accumulative way” to explorethe nature of early ancient academy, academy’s origins, the “several academies” in early SongDynasty are the basis of this research.The ancient middle and south Hebei private academies ware formed in the early SongDynasty. The Yuan Dynasty witnessed abundant records about the middle and south Hebeiprivate academy education. In different regions and different dynasties, the development ofancient middle and south Hebei private academy was uneven. In middle and south Hebei,Shijiazhuang and Baoding took the lead in the development of private academy. And theiradvantage maintained nearly two hundred years throughout the whole Song Dynasty and YuanDynasty. The Yuan Dynasty and Ming Dynasty were the key periods of ancient middle andsouth Hebei Private Academy. The outstanding performance of the private academy ofpractical tradition is the spirit of real learning and laid a foundation for the practicalcharacteristic of private academy. In Yuan Dynasty, Xingtai and Handan joined the camp ofprivate academy. In quantity of private academy, Xingtai tied Baoding.Since the establishment of the Yuan Dynasty, with speeding feudal dynasties ideologicalconsolidation and interaction in the area of academic and characteristics of heritage, privateacademy of the middle and south Hebei province continued to update and then formed aunique geographical distribution and development patterns. Zeitgeist in the development ofthe private academy down the city and the secularization of societies indicates that politicaland cultural base and potential crisis in the development of private academy to a certain extentin middle and south Hebei. In Ming Dynasty, the private academy had already spreadthroughout the central and southern part of Hebei. Xingtai occupy half of the number ofprivate academy in middle and south of Hebei province. And the private academy in differentregions changes significantly in this dynasty. Learning from schools and academies run by government, the ancient middle and southHebei private academies had an important position in Hebei and the northern academyeducation history. The Zhangnan Academy in Handan when Yan Yuan as its presidentrepresent the highest level of middle and south Hebei ancient private academy. The ZhangnanAcademy is inevitable in the history of private academy development in middle and southHebei and also it indicates the embarrassed survival and historical destiny of private academyin northern China at that time. In the Qing Dynasty, Shijiazhuang fell to the frozen point andBaoding occupied a leading position in development of middle and south Hebei privateacademy. Walking down from the mountain to the town and pragmatic innovation are thefeatures of later middle and south Hebei private academy.
