Oral communication teaching is a significant part of Chinese education,therefore, more attention should be paid into the oral communication teaching incurriculum provision, in teaching material compilation and the teaching practice.The history of oral communication teaching, on one hand relatively is too shortwhen comparing with other teaching methods, and there are many fuzzyunderstandings about it. On the other hand, most of studies on it at present justfocus on its actuality and strategy, but less on its history. Though some scholarsnoticed this phenomenon, they only analyzed the changes of the requirement ofthe oral communication teaching raised by the curriculum criterion. Precisely, it isthe lack of the study of oral communication teaching’s history that makes us couldnot get a clear understanding of its past and the present and what worse more is tomake an impact on the present oral communication teaching.This thesis mainly adopts literature research and comparative analysis methodsto study the history of junior high school’s oral communication teaching ent oralcommunication teaching. since1950s, to clarify and analyze the oralcommunication teaching requirements of Chinese curriculum criterion, thecontents reflected in the teaching material of PEP edition and the cases of the oralcommunication teaching, to present the different positions and natures of oralcommunication teaching in different states, to seek for the cause of its change anddevelopment, to summarize its cases’ characteristic and this kind of teachingexperience, and then to preliminarily form a history of oral communicationteaching and provide the first-line teachers with a clearer developing venation tohelp them understand the oral communication teaching’s coming into being andits development path, for the purpose of knowing more about the presentrequirement and the content of the oral communication teaching and offer factreference to the prominent problems occurred on the process of oralcommunication teaching, promoting the quality of oral communication teachingas well.
