Under the background of the rapid development of today’s education, counselorsin independent institutes have been confronted with many new cases as well as a lotof new problems, which have led to tougher situations and challenges in theconstruction of counselor staff in independent institutes. The problem of the burnoutstatus of counselors in such schools is a key factor influencing the counselor staffconstruction as a whole.Taking193counselors of independent institutes as the research object, thecurrent study has carried out three researches. The first research probes into the statusand trend of the career burnout of counselors in independent institutes; the secondresearch investigates the influence of job demands and resources for these counselorson their career burnout; the third research carries out an intervention experiment onthe career burnout of the counselors in independent institutes based on the jobdemands-resources model.Conclusions drawn from the current study are as follows:(1)Serious career burnout exists among counselors of independent institutes,especially showing the lack of passion and the sense of achievement.(2)Career burnout of counselors in independent institutes varies greatly with demography variables, such as gender, age, length of service, educational background, marital status, income, etc. These situations are specifically shown as follows: Thoseunmarried male counselors who are under30years old, with less than5years’ lengthof service, an income of2000-3000yuan, no definite professional ranks and titles, anda relatively low degree burden much more serious career burnout.(3)Job demands and resources of the counselors in independent institutes areclosely related to their career burnout, and the emotional demands, the leaders’support in job resources, the job autonomy, and the play of job ability will obviouslyforecast the status of career burnout of the counselors.(4) The system of “function–skill–guarantee” based on job demands-resourcesmodel can positively help to relieve career burnout.
