Biological inquiry ability refers to a series of capabilities that students master in thebiological science inquiry process, including cognitive ability, thinking ability, practicalability, innovation ability, appraisal ability, communication ability and coordination abilityect. With the rapid development of science and technology, inquiry ability and evaluationproblems gradually become the hot topic which the educational circles discuss. In the currentevaluation system, Most of the evaluation is only for academic evaluation of students and lessfor the evaluation of biological inquiry abilities. This study aims to assess the explorationability of junior high school students in the way of quantitative evaluation, in order to makeup the shortage of the inquiry ability evaluation theory.The study bases on the relevant information and research, reference to ability evaluationmethods of domestic and overseas to establish biological inquiry ability evaluation system injunior high school. According to the levels of dimensionality and indicator, build a test,observation scales and interview guide of the biological inquiry ability in junior high schoolstudents. With concrete implementation of the evaluation tools evaluate current students’biological inquiry ability and find out the existing problems in evaluation and cultivation.Then propose feasible and effective suggestions to solve these problems.The study’s method combines qualitative evaluation with quantitative evaluation. Assessthe students’ biological inquiry ability with the quantitative research methods of test andobservation; in-depth discuss and analyze the results of the evaluation with the qualitativeresearch methods of literature research and interview. Of which adopt random samplingmethod on the test issuance, observation and interview. The respondents are the students from10junior high school of grade two in Liaoning province. Combined with the result ofevaluation, the conclusions are as follows:1The biological inquiry ability of students comes from10junior high schools is inmedium level. They are imbalance in three dimensions. The ability of collecting informationand drawing conclusion is worse than others.2There is a difference between town and country, schools and genders in the aspect ofbiological inquiry of junior high school students. Of which the level of rural areas, ordinaryschools and girls is respectively lower than urban areas, key schools and boys. And thedifference is embodied in collecting information ability dimension.3The ability of students’ inquiry cannot evaluate accurately and scientifically by singlemethods. Pointing at the conclusion, the research put forward suggests to cultivate and evaluatestudents’ inquiry ability correctly:①The government allocates education resource reasonable.②Teach students in accordance of their aptitude.③Develop a variety of evaluationmethods.
