In2001,the Ministry of Education promulgated the Kindergarten Education Guidelines,which clearly put forward that children shall be offered with healthy and rich living andactivity environment.Kindergarten environment is not only the place for children to life in andto exercise, it is also an invisible course that exerts a subtle influence on promoting thedevelopment of young children. Recently, Kindergarten environment creation has attracted lotsof attention by public. Many kindergartens raised an upsurge of environmental creation.However, during the process, some of them follow the trend blindly. Of course, it’s inevitable.They focused too much on indoor environment, but ignore the outdoor space environment.Most kindergarten outdoor environment designers have no contact on related theories aboutpreschool education. While designing kindergarten outdoor space, they start from the angle ofthe adult, excessive pursuit forms and beauty-appreciation, neglect the characteristics ofchildren’s physical and mental development. That’s why these kindergartens’ outdoor spacecan’t meet the needs of children’s physical and mental development.Instructed by related ecology theory, this study is based on the perspective of ecologykindergarten outdoor space design strategy. The main adopted methods are literature method,interview method and observation method. The research is based on the investigation of thepresent situation of some kindergarten space design in Jinan. The main body is divided into thefollowing three parts:In the first part, by consulting literature and documents, the author discusses in this paperabout the importance of kindergarten outdoor space design on early childhood development, theecology view on kindergarten outdoor space design value, and the kindergarten outdoor spacedesign principles, which are holistic, natural, childish and sustainable.In the second part, by interviewing principals and teachers in several kindergarten in Jinan,investigating and analyzing the present situation of kindergarten outdoor activities space designthere, observing children’s outdoor activities in their daily lives, the author concludes threeproblems of current status of kindergarten outdoor space design. The three problems are:(1)Lack of space utilization and overall design;(2) Lack of the personality and interest design;(3)Lack of green space and sustainable design. The author analyzes the causes of these problems, which mainly are the lack of reasonable plan, lack of knowledge of behavior and mental needsof children’s development, lack of reasonable use of the natural landscape. But thefundamentally cause is the lack of ecological field of vision.In the third part, by analyzing the causes of kindergarten outdoor space design problems, theauthor puts forward improvement strategies based on the ecology view. Kindergarten outdoorSpace could be divided into functional space, place space and domain space. This paperexpounds the four dimensions of spatial design: pursuit overall openness on the spatial pattern,pursuit of personality and interest in space facilities, pursuit ecological sustainable on theenvironmental design, pursuit rich and variety on the material usage. On account of the fourdimensions, the author gives rational proposals for reference on each detail of specificstrategies.
