Dramas, poetry, proses and novels are listed as four major literary genres. As amalgamatesof literature, music, fine arts, dance and other factors, dramas can exert psychological andaesthetic influences on people through emphatic spiritual experiences. Dramas, however, are notpaid so much attention they deserve. Drama teaching and research of Chinese teaching in middleschool, being in a marginalized situation, and it finds no place to display their unique values.In view of this, this paper first combs drama selections of various middle school Chineseteaching materials published by The Peoples Education Press (the PEP Edition, from thefounding of the new China to the establishment of New Curriculum) in a longitudinal way,sorting out their venation of changes in different eras. Then a horizontal comparison has beenmade among the five Chinese teaching textbooks that are currently used, relatively published bythe Chinese Press, Peoples Education Press, Jiangsu Education Publishing House and ShandongEducation Press, analyzing the characteristics of the drama selections of the textbooks mentionedabove.The body of this paper is divided into four parts. The first part illustrates the value of dramain middle school Chinese teaching, and denotes the long-time importance of drama works beingselected as middle school Chinese teaching materials. In the second part, various dramaselections of middle school Chinese teaching materials with PEP Edition are combed in alongitudinal way, thus generating the venation of changes of the drama selections in differenteras. The third part sees a horizontal comparison and analysis among the five versions of middleschool Chinese teaching textbooks currently used. Some suggestions concerning the deficienciesof the compilation of the drama selections in middle school Chinese teaching materials areproposed in the fourth part.It is our truly hope that this paper can bear some referential suggestions to the compilationof middle school Chinese teaching textbooks so that more and more excellent works can beintegrated into the textbooks.
