The most study of Health Qigong is about the health effects, butlack of the fitness mechanism study. The phenomenon of reducedrespiratory rate by self report of long-term fitness Qigongpractitioners coincides with JOHN ALLISON’s study that therespiratory rate reduced to4times/min after30minutes meditationin1970. Is the mechanism of reduced respiratory rate simily withthe Qigong state and the conscious breath control? Whether thephysiological function can be simily impacted? And whether there isa correlation between reduced respiratory rate and the changed ofphysiolog function? This study is comparing with the change of thephysiolog functional in simily respiratory rate between the HealthQigong group and the control group, and exploring the physiolog changesand its mechanism during the Health Qigong exercises. This study adopts the intervention-control mode.32selectedcollege students in Shanghai University of Sport were randomly dividedinto experimental and control groups. Test group and control groupsagreed to keep no changing in eating habits during the experiment, with the exception of habitual physical activity, the subjects wereno longer involved in other sports activities exercise.Experimental group collective practice every Thursday, Saturdayand Sunday morning from9:00to10:30indoor with10min~15minPranayama of static Qigong;45min to60min Healthy Qigong Baduanjinexercises;15min~20min relaxation exercises of ideation. Thereis2times extra exercises every week freely. The experiment lasts3months.But the requirements of the control group in experimentalperiod is without changes of eating habits, the normal habitualmovement, no longer engaged in other sports exercise. After the endof the experiment, using repeated measures analysis of variance, comparing the subjects of two groups with respiratory rate, oxygenconsumption, carbon dioxide production, and changes in energymetabolism. The results prove that after3months of Health Qigongexercises, the variations amplitude of breathing frequency inexperimental group reduce to similar with the control group in theintentional control state, shows the "U".The oxygen consumption ofthe experimental group reduce12.5%in the second stage, the controlgroup increased by4.5%.The energy metabolism of experimental groupreduce14.0%,but the control group increased by4.2%,and theexperimental group continues to reduce in the recovery phase. Furtheranalysis revealed that there are also differences between differentgender. The found after discussion shows that the intentional control breathing can not reduce the energy metabolism, but qigong exercisescan reduce energy metabolism. Speculated the aligning of healthqigong plays an important role. That means the regulation of the neuralmechanisms makes the body’s energy consumption saving. The principlecan be attributed to the energy savings will reduce the entropyincrease of life, so produces a positive effect.
