We are living in an advanced era where information technology has an impact on every aspect of our lives, including education. Countries all over the world are actively incorporating information literacy in their education system, be it in the syllabus of one single subject or all subjects. This aims to improve the information literacy of students, which is defined as "...the ability to know when there is a need for information, to be able to identify, locate, evaluate and effectively use that information for the issue or problem at hand." Teachers are therefore changing their teaching method by adopting different teaching methodologies, as well as changing their teaching curriculum, goals, content and assessment methods. The writer approached this research by first reading information and articles relating to this subject, and then collected information using several methods including survey, interview and classroom observation. The results are then analysed with reference to the different education methodologies and the writer’s own experience. Incorporting information literacy in education is a great challenge not only for teacher but for students as well, through information literacy, student shift from being passive to active learners. This research aims to explore firstly the theory, then the experience of incorporating information literacy in teaching the Chinese Language, and lastly, the problems faced while doing so. Promoting information literacy in the learning of the Chinese Language is beneficial as it not only improves the teaching of the language, but it also promotes students’ability to learn through research and exploration, especially through the vast amount of knowledge through computer programs and the internet. Information is widely available on the internet. Through information literacy, students can learn to be subtle and innovative lifelong learners. Upgrading information literacy of students is a big project, unattainable only with the one teacher on one single subject in school. To achieve this noble aim, we need the coorperation from all departments in the whole nation, from the government, who provides funding and facilities, to the education department who provides better environment such as training teachers and setting better syllabus, to the promotion of information literacy in our society at large. At the school level, there must be strong support from the management so that there are better teachers, computing facilities as well as proper assessment methods. In order to achieve this goal, different varieties of teaching methods of Chinese Language should be mordenise by providing educative seminar, multimedia teaching, group study, role playing, result orientated studies, project etc.
