Chen Jingyuan is one of significant figures of the mysterious philosophical school of Taoism in Northern Song dynasty. Chen Jingyuan set up a unique Taoism in inheritance with Taoism in the Tang dynasty, based on philosophic theories of Lao-tzu and Chuang Tzu, in combination with the mysterious philosophical theories. His theories absorbed the characteristics of Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism and covered many fields on basis of the predecessors’thoughts. After development and innovation to those previous theories, Chen established his own theory. Therefore, Chen’s theory has the function of inheriting and transiting. From the point of education research, this paper focuses on Chen Jingyuan’s education theories and makes a thorough and comprehensive research.The thesis is divided into seven parts. The first part is the introduction, the introduction part illustrates the significance of the topic, the ideas and methods of research, the focus, difficulties andinnovations. And it also makes a summary to the researches of ChenJingyuan’s Taoism education thoughts.The second part of the body mainly introduces the origin of ChenJingyuan’s Taoism education thoughts. This part states Chen’shistorical background and his life experiences and his works, whichsupplies with us nutrients of Taoism education thoughts. ChenJingyuan education thoughts are mainly stated in: Moral TrueThrough Hidden Room Code Micro Opening Wen Shu, The BeginningWithout Measure People to Taste Wonderful Sutra, South China TrueThrough Chapters Significance, Clearly The Hole on The TrueThrough Jade Tactic, and so on. According to these books, thispaper makes a systemic research to Chen’s education thoughts.The third part of the thesis briefly introduces the theoreticalfoundation of Chen Jingyuan’s Taoism education thoughts. This partanalyze Chen’s theory on Taoism, theory on the formation ofuniverse, the theory of anthroposophy, theory on self-cultivationand governing, theory on mysterious philosophical and theory oninner alchemy, etc.The fourth part states Chen Jingyuan’s meaning of Taoismeducation thoughts. From the view of human’s Taoism nature ofanthroposophy, Chen’s theories illustrated that everyone had theIV possibility to be educated and to attain enlightenment. And Chenmaintained the object of education should be all people, and he alsoraised that people are different in talent. Therefore, he set “being aTaoist” as the main education goal. The content of his theory is tolearn, to feel, and to cultivate people’s personalities, so he putforward his education principles and methods as "by nature,teaching in accordance with students’ talent","helping students tocomprehend by themselves withouthelping students to comprehendby themselves without instillation","students should study step bystep","studying in calm without competing with others to reach thenatural state of human". In terms of learning methods, hemaintained that "staying in calm and getting rid of desires ","showing respect to teachers and education","comprehending thetruth by themselves".The fifth part analyzes some characteristics stated in the thirdpart of Chen’s Taoism education thoughts. Even though ChenJingyuan’s moral educational thoughts was greatly based onTaoism, it also combined some theories of Confucianism education.His educational thought is the main content of inner cultivation,maintains tranquility and peace, recover one’s original simplicity,the return to nature as the target.For both Taoist and Confuciantheories, he absorbed and integrated their essence and formed its own unique education thoughts.The sixth part makes an analysis to Chen Jingyuan’s Taoismeducation thoughts. His theories showed typical era features inNorthern Song dynasty, a period of cultural integration. ChenJingyuan’s theories enriched the Taoism, and opened up a brandnew way to the development of Taoism education theories.The seventh part finally makes a comprehensive summary to thewhole article.
