| The classroom teaching evaluation method described in this thesis is based on the experimental platform of Shane Wuhan English School.It has been developed after comprehensive research of domestic and overseas classroom teaching evaluation methods, and the teacher evaluation system from the Shane headquarters in Shanghai.It includes relevant issues in ESL Young Learner education, and takes a humanistic perspective, as well as considers developmental teaching evaluations and student-oriented teaching viewpoints.This method contains pre, during, and post-class evaluation targets.Pre-class evaluation targets include the teacher’s understanding of subject knowledge and ESL Young Learner teaching Methodology, the understanding of the course itself, the understanding of the students, familiarity with teaching resources, selection and decision of teaching targets, preparation of teaching plan, the familiarity of classroom instruction and classroom language, pre-class resource or realia preparation and preparation of classroom management rules. During-class targets evaluate the teaching process from two perspectives, the teacher’s teaching and the students’learning, describing the elements of teacher evaluation in class from the whole teaching and learning processes. The teacher’s teaching part includes teaching procedures, content and targets; teaching design, activities and goals; the use of teaching methods and skills; class control; teaching attitude; attention to students; and teaching effect. The students’learning part includes students’emotions, concentration, participation, interaction, language using ability, state of mind, and learning effects. The after-class part focuses more on the after-class reflection from the teacher.This teacher evaluation method expands on the original provided by Shane Shanghai headquarters, presents broader references for teacher’s formative assessment in classroom teaching and is dedicated to provide references for improving teaching quality and professional quality.It evaluates the whole teaching processes from the perspective of students’learning, which embodies the school concepts of "people-oriented","respect for students’ development","for all of the students","for all students".In order to test this method, we recorded10classes of on the spot teaching and held group discussions. Weaknesses were pointed out, strategies for improvement were presented, teaching experiences were shared, and successful teaching experiences were summarized and generalized.This research not only provides an excellent teaching evaluation method for Shane Wuhan English School, but also provides references for other schools or training sections in the field of ESL Young Learners education, especially for English teaching of pre-school students, primary school students with small-scaled class and non-test based teaching purpose. |
