High School Liberal Arts Teachers’ Professional Happiness Under The New Curriculum Reform

From ancient times, happiness has been the life goal which people are pursuing.Teachers are no exception in this aspect. The future of a country largely depends on education;the future of education mainly lies in teachers. The study aimed to find out solutions to thefollowing problems under the background of the new curriculum reform: how to improveteachers’ motivation; how to promote teachers’ professional happiness, responsibility; howto integrate teaching and entertaining; how to achieve teaching and learning at the same timeand how to teach happily. Factors affecting teachers’ professional happiness are multifaceted.Teachers are facing the following practicable and theoretical problems: how to promoteteachers’ professional happiness and how to make learners’ learning as well as teachers’teaching happily.Among the current research on teachers’ professional happiness, most researchfocused on teachers as a whole, while the number of research concerning the professionalhappiness of some subject is relatively small. Teachers’ professional happiness may varyfrom one to another due to their different subjects as well as other various factors.Comprehensive Teachers are no exception and they have their own specialty. Based on thisidea, the paper took Hebei Raoyang as an example and the Arts Comprehensive secondaryschool teachers in Raoyang, Hebei province as the subject, using interviews andquestionnaires to analyze the analysis of teachers’ professional happiness. Besides, the studyexplored the potential influencing factors and proposed some effective strategies to promotethe teachers’ professional happiness in Hebei Raoyang according to the conclusion.Arts Comprehensive Secondary School Teachers, including teachers of history,geography, politics three subjects, are supposed as vulnerable groups. These three subjects arethe "Little Branch" in school. A survey showed that the career happiness of ArtsComprehensive secondary school teachers were generally not high. Thus, their careerhappiness needs particular concern. In order to understand the real situation of teachers’professional happiness the author conducted the study. This study, which is based on the previous studies, conducted a questionnaire to teachers of Arts Comprehensive SecondarySchool in Hebei Raoyang. And the study adopted qualitative research methods, includinginterviews. The current situation of teachers’ professional happiness in Arts ComprehensiveSecondary School and the influencing factors were got from the research. The questionnairewas a combination of the face the scale of Andrews and Withey prepared in1976and themaster’s thesis A Research on the Professional Happiness of Geography Teachers of HighSchool in Henan Province written by Li Wenjing. According to the main contents of the textprepared by Comprehensive teacher professional happiness questionnaire, the author testedthe data.Under the new curriculum reform, after investigating, researching and analyzing, thefactors affecting the happiness of Arts Comprehensive teachers in Raoyang includedteachers’ wage income, social status, academic status, the requirements of the new curriculumfor teachers, teacher social and occupational factors professional development and studentdevelopment, social ambiance, burnout and pressure; family relationships, work relationships,interpersonal factors such as teacher-student relationship; teacher’s physical health, teachinginterests, curriculum and teachers’ professional outlook and so on.In the context of the new curriculum reform, the strategies to improve ArtsComprehensive teachers’ professional happiness in middle school were as far as teachersthemselves concerned, the teachers should change their concepts, establish the correctprofessional values; strengthen all aspects of their learning, improve the professionalcapabilities and new courses ability to cope with change; strengthen their ability to regulateand improve the psychological quality; in terms of the school, the leaders should concernteachers’ professional development; create a people-oriented management environment;schools to strengthen the organization and management, the establishment of a harmoniousbetween school leaders and teachers life and the relationship between superior-subordinaterelationship, colleague relationships between teachers and teachers, teacher-studentrelationship between teachers and students, and students and between students; from thesocial angle, society and related departments should try to improve the environment tosupport the new curriculum to enhance teachers’ sense of identity; people should change theirconcepts and they should improve the overall status of teachers reasonably as well as raise income levels; creating a favorable economic environment; building a harmonious society;creating good relationships atmosphere.The main part of this paper was based on empirical research. Based on the results ofinterdisciplinary research philosophy, education, psychology, economics, combined with highschool Arts Comprehensive teachers’ professional characteristics, the author exploredsecondary school Arts Comprehensive teachers’ professional happiness implementationstrategy and proposed reasonable proposals to enhance teachers’ professional happiness. Theauthor hopes that this research can arouse more people to pay attention to the status andquality of life for the majority of the Arts Comprehensive secondary school teachers. Theattention on teachers’ professional experience happiness and their professional happinesscould not only help promote the professional development of teachers and improve the qualityof education, but also conducive to the stability and social progress and development ofteachers.
