Education for the21st century is fundamentally pursuing a comprehensive and balanced development for every student. However, comprehensive development of individuals should own both personality and subjectivity. Developing human subjectivity has become a major issue to the history and the times. The Small-sized education is a new teaching model based on narrowing class size, focusing on cultivating students’ comprehensive ability and subjective sense, through changing management thoughts, school principles, teaching mode, teaching process, evaluation mechanisms and so on. Its fundamental purpose is to promote students’ ability with flexibility and personality.In this paper, the student’s subjectivity of the small class has been analyzed by literature research method, questionnaire survey and case study method through multi-perspective views. This article mainly discusses the value and advantage of the student’s subjectivity based on small sized-class through management thoughts, school principles, teaching mode, teaching process, evaluation mechanisms. Though an extensive field research in Chongqing Bachuan Small Experimental Middle School, successful experiences and practices have been summarized for small sized-class to promote the student’s subjectivity. It also provides a practical mode for small sized-school at this pattern.This article is divided into five chapters:The first chapter is the preface. It presents the cause and significance of the thesis, organizes relevant literature data, defines the relevant concepts, and explains the use of research methods and designs.The second chapter is finding the theories which can support that students’ subjectivity can be promoted in small sized-class. The three theories are equal access to education, individual education and subjective education.The third chapter is the value analysis of small sized-class to promote students’ subjectivity. It discusses the value and advantage of the student’s subjectivity of small sized-class through class sizes, management thoughts, teaching mode, evaluation mechanisms.The fourth chapter summarizes successful experiences and practices of Chongqing Bachuan small experimental schools to promote the student’s subjectivity. It includes optional class system to create an open classroom teaching mode, weekly on-duty class to realize self-manage, reforming teaching model to achieve independent learning, and using development report to record every step of their growth.The fifth chapter is consideration and suggestion for small sized-class to promote students’ subjectivity, including research result analysis and relevant suggestions.
