Study On The Restrictions And Countermeasures Of Developing Shanxi Apple Industry

Shanxi Province is located in the northwest of the loess plateau, which is the most suitable place to grow apple trees, and has high-quality fruit production of ecological environment resources with the characteristics of the high altitude, sufficient sunlight, the longer frost-free period, huge temperature difference between day and night, moderate rainfall, thick earth and rich potassium content in the soil.The plantation of apple trees dates back to a long time ago, and now there are a variety of cultivars being grown by the farmers. In Shanxi Province, apple trees are planted in a lot of areas with great district concentration, which lay a great foundation for industrial development. Shanxi Province is one of the most suitable places to grow apple trees and one of the most important areas for fruit-related products production.Since the reform and opening up, the apple industry in Shanxi province has witnessed a rapid development. Apple production has become the pillar industry of rural economies. However, there are still some problems during the development of the apple industry. Firstly, the apple cultivar structure is not well balanced as there is the lack of early ripe cultivar and processed products; secondly, there is the inappropriate allocation of production; thirdly, the apple growers are not well educated in apple growing, which resulted in the low quality of the fruits; last but not least, the level of industrialization in apple industry is still very low. All those problems have constitutes the major barriers for further development of the apple industry in Shanxi province, making it hard for Shanxi to become the apple capital of China. We have to acknowledge the current problems existed in the Shanxi apple industry, and actively seek for ways of improvement in order to increase the farmer’s income and accomplish the goal of building a well-off society in an all-round way. This thesis studies the advantages and disadvantages for Shanxi to develop apple industry and related researches on the status quo of apple industry in Shanxi have been carried out. The major expression of development slowness in Shanxi apple industry and the reasons for the problems are all deeply analyzed. For the sake of creating a long-term International goal in apple industry which is sustainable, the corresponding measures and Suggestions are proposed considering the current situation of economic development of Shanxi Province.On the one hand, we need to conduct training to improve the knowledge of apple growers, regulate the cultivar structure, increase the technology investment, refine the production system for standardized production and strengthen the infrastructure construction of apple gardens. Those strategies concern about improving the quality of apple products in the production process. On the other hand, efforts should be taken to advance the industrialization of apples. The industry should be developed in a technology intensive manner. The government should actively join the efforts to market the wellestablished brands and make the most use of it, improve the service network, promote market diversification and expand both oversea and domestic market, therefore, to advance the process of industrialization and strive to propel the development of apple industry in Shanxi province, making Shanxi the apple capital in China.
