Cylindrical cam mechanism is a means of information storage and transmission, with the advantages of small volume, small number of parts, fast response, and carrying heavy, and etc. The cylindrical cam profile surface cannot be expanded in space, which results in its design and manufacturing difficulties, and currently there are inevitable drawbacks in common equal diameter machining method. In addition, when designing the cylindrical cam for different requirements, it is often necessary to finish the design for motion law, analysis and verification, model creating, the processing data generating, machining simulation, and etc. by reprogram, affecting the popularization and application of cylindrical cam. To solve the technical problems in cylindrical cam design and processing and improve its efficiency, combining with the application of cylindrical cam in disposable sanitary automatic production line, this paper has deduced the toolpath equation of equal diameter machining and unequal diameter machining, and made a research on the parametric solid modeling technology of cylindrical cam. Based on the principle of generating method, this paper deduces the machine tool linkage mathematical models of cylindrical cam equal diameter machining and unequal diameter machining, then based on that realizes the machining data generating and machining simulation during the processing of cylindrical cam, and develops cylindrical cam CAD/CAM system with 3D modeling software SolidWorks as a platform.1, The paper deduces the toolpath equation of equal diameter machining according to the equation of contour surface of cylindrical cam with oscillating follower, improves double enveloping machining method, and then deduces the toolpath equation of unequal diameter machining.2, Combined with the actual needs, it introduces the method of reversing profile surface of cylindrical cam and realizes the parametric solid modeling technology of cylindrical cam based on scanning excision method.3, The paper analyzes the machine tool linkage mathematical models of equal diameter machining and unequal diameter machining, and the method of machining data generating, then carries out the manufacture verification.4, Based on the secondary development of 3D software SolidWorks, the paper develops the CAD/CAM system of cylindrical cam by integrating the modules of cylindrical cam motion law, contour checking, solid modeling, equal and unequal diameter machining data generating and machining simulation. Combined with the application of cylindrical cam in disposable sanitary automatic production line, the developed CAD/CAM system is tested. The application results show that the system can efficiently complete the design, machining simulation and machining codes generating of cylindrical cam, and it has good practical application value.
