Study On The Scale Of Plant Space In Urban Waterfront Based On Environmental Psychology

The plant design in landscape space has been in great demand dramatically, it mainly bases on controlling the scale of plant space, but the standard of scale control usually dependents on the the personal experience of designers or realizing certain functions, that makes the standard a fuzzy concept. The plant space designed will not conform to the demand of users, when the subjective cognition of designer personal cognitive deviates. In order to make the plant space more humanistic, the research on the the relationship between psychological perception and scale of plant space is necessary.On the basis of literature review and concepts research on the related theories, from the environmental consciousness perspective, this paper firstly carried on the analysis of the waterfront space structures in urban area to indicate the factors impacting on human perception. The perception of users could be affected by various factors including human body scale, single plant scale, combination plant scale, etc. in different ways.After that, combining with certain methods of environment evaluation in environmental psychology, empirical study was conducted in two aspects. One is the study of local plant space scale, the second is the study of whole plant space scale. SD method which is commonly applied in landscape evaluation, was used in both of these two studies. On the basis of ground evaluation, the further study illustrated the way plant scale influenced on space perception in urban waterfront. Further more, the connections between the indicator of object space scale and the result of psychological perception were discussed, basing on correlation analysis of person’s psychology consciousness and the object environment scale of plant space.In the study of local plant spatial scale, the scale indexes affecting psychological perception, like local plant space area, coverage, isolation degree and D/H were analyzed; In the spatial scale study of whole plant, the proportions of plant space in different types was considered as scale factors to figure out how the proportions of plant space in different types influenced on the psychological perception. Aim to visualize the variation relationship between the plant space scale and more intuitive perception, the results of the research were presented in the form of regression equation. That would be favourable for the designers to have a accurate grasp of plant space scale in practical applicationFinally, the research methods were concluded, and the deficiencies in theoretical research and empirical research were analyzed. This paper aims to have a discussion on the connection between plant space dimensions and human perception, and provide reference for future related research.
