A Comparison Study About The Presentation Of Chinese Culture Projects In TCSL Textbooks Used In Indonesia

Along with the continuous development of good relationship between China andIndonesia, as well as the increasing of economic and trade cooperation between both countries,resulted in the continue growth of Indonesian students learning Chinese language. Currentlythere are two types of Chinese language textbooks used in Indonesia, including textbooksfrom overseas and also local textbooks or the textbook which is specially designed forIndonesian students. As textbooks have a significant role in the study, the quality of thetextbooks would have a direct impact in the study result. Learning a language is also a processof learning its culture. Indonesia is a non-Chinese language country, so that Chinese languagetextbooks would have a significant role in introducing Chinese culture items in Chineselanguage teaching.There are two sets of Chinese language textbooks currently being used in Indonesia,Chinese Tutorial which is published in China and Bahasa Tionghoa which is published inIndonesia. Both textbooks are designed for the beginner students. From the vocabulary wemay conclude these two textbooks cultural projects contents, gained the statistical data, thenset out the characteristic from both textbooks, conducted the comparison study which resultedin both textbooks emphasize in introducing social communication cultural projects, moreoverwe may conclude that Chinese Tutorial contained less in the values and social structurecultural projects, while Bahasa Tionghoa contained less in the concept of symbol andeducation cultural projects; Chinese Tutorial used conversation method as the main method,while Bahasa Tionghoa used conversation and narration method.As the last part, the author gave the appropriate advice for the writing of IndonesianChinese language textbooks in order to support the development of Indonesian Chineselanguage local textbooks.
