This thesis is a practice report on the consecutive interpreting of The Myth of Library Cave, anEpisode of the TV Documentary Series Dunhuang.The task described by the report is chosen from anaward-winning documentary of CCTV9.In this report, the author selected the most representativefragments of the documentary as the text of the case study to make an exploration of the various problemsand difficulties encountered by the interpreter in the process of documentary interpreting and puts forwardsome practical coping skills and strategies for each of the problem respectively.When describing the entire task, the author mainly focuses on the following two parts, namely,“Preparation before Interpreting” and “Case Study”. Specifically speaking, the author divided the“preparation” part into four stages, which are target-setting stage, background-information collection stage,glossary-preparing stage and the language-style analysis stage. Besides, the author kept a record of themain tasks within each stage. In the “Case Studies” part, while considering the characteristics of thedocumentary interpreting, the author made a profound analysis and research of the selected interpretingcases from three perspectives:(1) Interpreting skills of ancient units of measurement and era;(2)Interpreting skills of classical Chinese;(3) Interpreting skills of long sentences in the documentary.At the end of the report, the author reflected upon the problems and the errors occurred during thetask and meanwhile made a further emphasis over the necessity and importance of preparatory work beforeinterpreting. Finally, while drawing on the past experiences, the authors summarized several useful skillsdiscovered in the task and came up with a conclusion.
