C-E Consecutiave Interpreting Based On Interpretive Tlieon

This report is a simulated C-E Consecutive Interpreting(CI)practice report based on the first episode of the documentary China Mega Project 2,China Road.The author chooses the documentary for two reasons: one is that since the reform and opening up,China has made great progress in infrastructure construction,showing the world a new China.The other is that against the backdrop of One Belt,One Road Initiative,China's valuable experience of infrastructure construction can be used as reference for the countries along the Belt and Road.Meanwhile,against this backdrop,the demand for this kind of interpreting tasks is huge,so it's meaningful to study how to solve the difficulties of this kind of interpreting tasks.This report is guided by Interpretive Theory,analyzing the main difficulties encountered by interpreters during the process of interpreting.Through analysis,the main challenges in this case are listed as follows: a large amount of background knowledge about China's infrastructure construction required;switch between dialects among different people in the documentary;a lot of figures and fourcharacter Chinese words in the SL;Chinese sentences without a subject;hidden information in Chinese original sentences and run-on sentences.Based on Interpretive Theory,the author adopts three strategies:(1)amplification,meaning supplying words in rhetoric,grammatical structure,semantics and quotations in interpreting on the basis of accurate comprehension of the original,to make the target language(TL)more idiomatic;(2)Omission,meaning omitting some unnecessary linguistic units to avoid redundancy of content and information overload;(3)Sentence segmentation,meaning transforming a clause with a subject into a sentence in a Chinese sentence composed of several clauses.This report is conducive to interpreters' similar practice in the future and helps interpreters to get rid of the SL surface structure and apply interpreting strategies during interpreting,so that their interpreting skills can be further improved.
