Technological developments have caused social changes, bringing peopledifferent ways of life and work, among which are the more progresses of fashionshow design. New technologies contribute to the large variety of today’s method offashion show, leaving behind the traditional exhibition walls, pictures, words andlights. With its interactive nature, the computerized show design has given people thespecial on-site experiences, gaining massive recognition and popularity.One of the ethnic groups in China with a long history, during which a specialculture of cuisine and costume of their own have been developed. With the impacts bymodernization, marketization and the cultural influences from other ethnic groups, Yicostumes are greatly marginalized. It is now the high time for us to collect and reservethe data of the Yi costumes.The project aims to explore the application of computer techniques in Yicostume show design and the significance of the computerized fashion show design inthe protection of ethnic minorities’ costume cultures. The researches into theapplications in show design of multimedia, virtual reality and human-computerinteraction demonstrate their value and significance in fashion show design. Theinvestigation and collection of Yi costume materials make a good report on the statusquo of Yi costume culture protection. The theoretical studies of the3D virtual realityin exhibiting approach and interactive technologies develop the3D motion simulationand garment simulation in the show design to give a direct and dynamic exhibition ofthe unique charm of Yi costumes.
