The English-chinese Translation Of Re-examining Culture/Conservation Conflict: The View Of Anthropology Of Conservation Through The Lens Of Environmental Ethics And A Report On The Translation

The thesis consists of three parts, namely, the source text of Re-examiningculture/conservation conflict: the view of anthropology of conservation through the lens ofenvironmental ethics, the Chinese version translated by the author and the report on thetranslation. Through examining environmental ethics theories focused on the divisionbetween “anthropocentric” and “ecocentric” approaches in regard to three value bases forenvironmental concern: self-interest, humanistic altruism, and biospheric altruism, thesource text aims at leading people to reconsider how to work toward a viable future of thebiosphere. And the translation of such an informative text is of significance to the translatorbecause it helps her to deepen her understanding of translation theories as well asimproving her translation skillsThe translation report introduces some basic information about the source text, layingspecial emphasis on its linguistic features. Then it analyzes in detail the FunctionalEquivalent theory proposed by Eugene A. Nina and how the author and translator appliesthe theory to practice by trying to realize lexical equivalence, syntactical equivalence,discourse equivalence and stylistic equivalence in her translation. The experience gainedfrom this translation experience is then summed up.
