| This thesis studies the approaches of metaphor translation in English news fromthe perspective of Skopos theory.Metaphor is a form of rhetoric as well as a cultural symbol. It is widely used inEnglish news to convey a certain meaning. A metaphor image in English can berendered differently in Chinese, and the culture background reflected in the metaphormay be difficult for the target language readers to understand. In the process oftranslating, it’s a key problem to retain the original form and meaning of the sourcelanguage, to fully translate the metaphor in the News and realize the aim of translationby reserving fidelity and coherence. Thus, the target readers may get a completeunderstanding of the translated text.This thesis studies the approaches of metaphor translation in English newsthrough the angle of Skopos theory. The findings of this thesis may compensate for thedrawbacks of the previous studies and promote the development of metaphortranslation in English news. |
