A Report On Biography Translation--With Special Reference To Translation Of Hugh Jackman

With the booming of English translation, more and more people begin to be interested in foreign celebrities. Many biographies have been translated into Chinese. As an important English text, biography has its own characteristics in both language structures and culture color, which requires translators to know the characteristics of biography, to grasp the translation principles and techniques which should be flexibly applied to translation practice.In this report, the author intends to solve the translation problem that emerged during translation of Hugh Jackman in light of skopos theory. The author firstly gives a brief introduction to the report and the translation task respectively. Then skopos theory is introduced. Last but not least, the author gives detailed analysis of translation problems and their solutions under guide of skopos theory.The author holds the view that every biography has its specific purpose. Authenticity and literariness of biography are in correspondence with fidelity rule and coherence rule. A translator should take the skopos of biography into consideration during the translation practice. Also, coherence and fidelity should be achieved, if possible.
