With the increase of comprehensive national strength, China gradually participates in more and more global economic activities. China will embrace the world with a more open gesture and take an active part in political, economic and cultural exchange around the world. In the process of information transfer, newspapers and magazines (the print media) plays an indispensible role. The print media are favored by readers because of the large information capacity, detailed content and profound reviews. Among the all kinds of news, the economic news has its own unique characteristics. In recent years, contextualization in translation has attracted increasing attention from scholars. Context can both promote and restrict the translation process. On the one hand, with the help of context translators can understand writers’ intentions in the right way; on the other hand, the different (nonequivalent) context between translators and writers may bring obstacles to translators in understanding the original works. The Economist is an economic weekly magazine with a history of more than a century. The writer chooses The Economist as the material for the translation practice because since founded it has kept its unique style---wise and sharp words, natural and precise writing style, humorous language with power of expression.Guided by context theory, with texts that selected from The Economist as corpus for translation practice, this report focuses on the analysis of the pros and cons of Chinese translation of English news texts along with the discussion of the translation strategies.
