This article will discuss the Newmark’s text typology and his translation methods. According to using frequency, text type is divided into expressive text, informative text and vocative text. In addition, this paper will also compare the semantic translation and communicative translation and interpretation of the relationship between the text type and translation methods. This paper will analyze the translation of text type method, provides some common translation strategies and reminds them that there is no corresponded relationship between the text type and translation methods. So the translation should be flexible to use.With the deepening of commercialization of the whole society, commercial advertisements and advertising translation are playing a more and more important role in our modern society, therefore, the study of commercial advertising translation is of great importance. This paper is intended to probe into the application of Text Typology Theory put forward by Peter Newmark in commercial advertising translation. Based on Semantic Translation and Communicative Translation proposed by Peter Newmark, this thesis will analyze the strategies for commercial advertising translation in hope to give help to the marketing strategies overseas.Using the famous and popular commercial advertising translation case studies, this article will discuss the merits of the two sides in the commercial advertising translation text typology. And commercial research will be used in the integrated application of translation theory.Finally, combination of semantic and communicative translation and some effective strategies for commercial advertising translation are proposed on the basis of detailed analysis of the translated examples of brand name, slogan and body copy. It is sincerely hoped that this thesis will enrich our commercial advertising translation and prove to be of some value in translating commercial advertisements.
