The materials of this translation report areextracts from the historical backgroundtexts of Mongolia and Spain of the computer game Civilization. Using representativepersonages of these two civilizations as narrative theme, the extractselaborate on thedevelopment history of Mongolia and Spain in chronological order. Translation of thetexts wascarried out in the following steps: intensive reading, consultation of relatedmaterials, preliminary translation, revision, finalization of the translation and writingthe translation report. The writer made clear the narrative logic by intensive reading,resolved the cultural confusing points by consulting related materials, applied andtested the skills and theories at the lexical, sentential and textual level and wrotetranslation report based on the key or confusing points and corresponding resolutionsin lexical, sentential, cultural and textual aspects. In the process, the writerrealizedthat the translation of game background texts should be player-orientedand atranslator should accumulate his knowledge in the game-related field. The writer alsofoundhis inadequacy in the command of Chinese and English languages, translationefficiency and conciseness of translations. So the writer put forth animprovementscheme to enhance a translator’s skills: improving the commandof Chinese andEnglish languages by reading literatures in large quantity,honing skills in a certainfield by reading widely and delving into it and lifting efficiency with the help ofcomputer-aided translation.The translation report consists of four parts: the description of translation tasks,translation process, case analysis and translation practice summary.
