As a report on the consecutive interpreting (CI) with text, this dissertation describes one CItask conducted by the author at the bioenergy seminar and the culture performance of2013TransIndo-China Bioenergy Expedition Tour to Guangxi University for Nationalities, analyzes thetypical questions occurring at the seminar and culture performance and discusses commondifficulties of CI as well as possible coping solutions and interpreting skills. This CI task is different from other ones because the author serves as the interpreter in twodifferent forms of activities: the seminar and the culture performance, the former is academicwhile the latter focuses on entertainment. The report divides the period of “pre-interpretingpreparation” into three phases according to time order, each with a different core and function. In the third part, the author selects typical cases for further analysis from three perspectives:(1) Misinterpretation of the names of foreigners and foreign places,(2) The coping solutions ofdiscrepancy between the manuscript information and the actual situation,(3) Strategy ofamplification in the interpreting of culture-loaded words.Through the task description and case studies, we are convinced that to keep all thematerials in order---such as the manuscripts, the name lists, the schedule in order before andduring the task is essential to successful interpreting. Besides, service awareness is a requiredelement to interpreters. Both the factor of “text” and non-textual factor are significant to aqualified interpreter.
