Translation Of Long Sentences In EST Under The Functional Equivalence Theory

Science and technology progress rapidly with each passing day in modern society.The introduction of advanced science and technology is essential for the development of China.EST translation is an important channel to bring in foreign science and technology,certainly of great significance to China.There are many long sentences in EST for the characteristics in vocabulary,syntax and discourse,which makes the translations somewhat difficult.The quality of EST translation is directly dependent on the understanding of long sentences.Translation theories of Nida have great effects on translation studies,in which functional equivalence theory is one of the key concepts.Functional equivalence theory derives from dynamic equivalence theory.In the process of translation,I have applied functional equivalence theory to the translation of EST,especially the translation of long sentences and adopted sequential method,reversed order method,division method and integrated method respectively under different circumstances with satisfactory results.The study of the application of functional equivalence theory to the translation of EST long sentences will inspire and help me to improve my translations in the future.
