On the basis of teasing various instructional theories on reading, byanalyzing a multiple of reading materials of teaching Chinese as a foreignlanguage, and conducting questionnaire on learners’ condition of usingreading materials and in-depth interview on the instructors in reading class,this paper concludes some currently existent weaknesses in compilingreading materials of Chinese for foreigners, and proposes somesuggestions. Thus it can offer some beneficial references for parallelresearches in the future and for the compilation of reading materials ofteaching Chinese as a foreign language.In total, this paper falls into seven chapters.Chapter One is the introduction, which illustrates the researchsignificance and research method of this paper.Chapter Two makes an overview on previous studies in two aspects asreading instruction and reading material, describes and analyzes thecompilations of10existing reading materials, and points out the theirweaknesses.Chapter Three teases relevant content on reading ability, introduceswhat is specifically examined on reading ability by the latest HSK, andconcludes the relation between reading ability and reading materialcompilation.Chapter Four is an interpretation and analysis on the findings of thequestionnaire about students’ condition of using reading materials.Chapter Five is the record and summary of the in-depth interview onthe instructors in reading class.Chapter Six is pertinent suggestions on the compilation of reading materials, based on the author’s theoretical analysis and analysis on thefindings of the survey and the interview.Chapter Seven summarizes the whole passage, and indicates theshortcomings in the research.
