This is a translation project report. Taking the second chapter of Migration, Gender and Social Justice as its source language text, it aims at discussing problems in the translation of academic papers. The original text discusses the insecurity factors faced up by Indonesian women working as migrant houseworkers in the United Arab Emirates, arguing that these insecurity factors stem from lack of laws regulating the housework industry in both countries and the misunderstanding and discrimination that people hold against the housework industry and houseworkers. The report is made up of four parts. The first part is an introduction of the translation project, including its background, objectives and structure, etc. The second part presents the background information about the original text. The third part discusses the difficulties in translation and the methods to handle them. The last part summarizes the problems that remain unsolved and the lessons we can learn from this translation practice. It is held in this report that the difficulty in translating academic papers lies the translation of long sentences. When translating them into Chinese, the translator should adopt sequential translation, reversing translation and other flexible methods to reproduce the original meaning in a faithful and idiomatic way.
