This is a report on the project of translating “Mindfulness Training for Interpreting Students” by Amparo Jiménez Ivars and Daniel Pinazo Calatayud. The source text is an academic paper issued in the world-renowned linguistic journal Lebende Sprachen of Walter de Gruyter, published in November, 2013. The text presents the concept of attention and mindfulness from theoretical and empirical perspectives, explains how to improve performance quality in conference interpreting trainees through the development of the attention-regulatory practice of mindfulness and compares interpreter’s performance variability of mindfulness training and relaxation practice through experiment. The main contents of this report are divided into four parts: Chapter One is the introduction to the translation project, including project background, objectives, significance and structure. Chapter Two presents the research background, including theoretical foundation for the translation, background and a general analysis of the source text. Chapter Three, as the most important part, is about translation difficulties and methodologies, consisting of translation difficulties, translation preparations, translation methodologies, and the examples that are used to explain the translation methods used in the process of translation. Chapter Four concludes the report with the lessons, implications and unsolved problems.According to the text typology advanced and developed by Reiss and New Mark, the translator firstly chooses the Text Typology to identify the text type in accordance with language function and then to employ apt translation methodson the basis of text type, namely the communicative translation strategy promoted by New Mark, to guide thetranslation process with the employment of translation techniques such as transliteration plus annotation, conversion, amplification and omission, sentence splitting and restructuring.Hopefully, the translation project could make some positive contributions to interpreting study and the translation of similar texts.
