As a report on English to Chinese consecutive interpreting simulation, this thesis describes the interpreter’s performance, analyzes the interpretation of the speech delivered by Dr. Gadsden, and discusses common difficulties of interpretation as well as some coping strategies.Through description of the task, the author finds that preparation serves as a decisive part in consecutive interpretation, for it may be helpful to avoid underperformance on the interpreter’s part. The author also concludes some common requirements and problems of interpreting, which include long sentences, humorous expressions, redundant and blur phrases. By analyzing the simulation performance of the interpreter, some problems are discovered which include problems in listening,note-taking and coordination of memory and note-taking during interpreting, several coping strategies are mentioned to solve the problems referred to. Besides, some other strategies are concluded and recommended by the author for interpreter’s reference.This report aims to discuss requirements and problems and coping strategies such as how to improve listening comprehension, how to practice note-taking and how to coordinate memory and note-taking in the course of interpreting. The author holds that a qualified professional interpreter should practice frequently of all the strategies for perfection.
