An Interpreting Report Of CCTV Financial Review Program

Interpretation is an impromptu oral activity in which information is transferred from the source language into a target language. It is a process of communication achieved with the assistance of the interpreter between two parties who are unable to speak the same language. Compared with written translation, oral interpretation can fully arouse people’s enthusiasm and gain greater flexibility. In the years between the Second World War to the 1980’s, nearly all the research was focusing on the conference interpreting, especially simultaneous interpreting. In resent years, interview programs become more and more popular thanks to the rapid improvement of the media technology. Talk show interpreting is a newly emerging interpreting experience that can promote exchanges between different countries. This thesis is an interpreting practice report, and the interpreting material, two programs of CCTV financial review, is chosen by the author herself. It is a well-known financial commentary program focusing on the most notable economy event with multiple perspectives. On the basis of familiarity with the content, the author makes the interpretation with the video. The author discusses the possible difficulties that may arise in the process of consecutive interpreting of talk show and the coping strategies and solutions. By writing this report, the author improves her interpreting skill and hopes that this report will provide a little reference for similar themes of interpretation work.This translation report is divided into three parts: an introduction, text and conclusion. The text consists of Description of the Translation Task, Description of the Translation Process, Case Analysis of the Interpretation and Interpreting Task SummaryIn Introduction, the author gives a brief statement of the importance of oral interpretation and interpreter, as well as the value of the interpreting material.The first chapter mainly describes the task including nature of the task and the reasons for selecting the topic. The reasons contain the importance of talk show interpreting and the maneuverability of the interpreting practice.The second chapter is the description of the interpreting process, which contains pre-interpretation preparation, interpretation process and review after Interpretation. The author mainly introduces the preparation of the theme, tools and the forecasting of interpretation problem.The third chapter is the analysis of specific cases. Respectively, free translation and explanation skills, figure interpreting, note-taking and special sentence patterns. In this practice material, there are some words that can not be interpreted literally because foreigners can not understand the subtleness between them, sometimes they even feel confused. That’s when free translation and explanation skills are necessary. Besides this, the author also states the interpretation of special sentence patterns, figure interpreting note-taking skills.The forth chapter summarizes this interpreting task, including some feelings after the interpretation, the unsolved problems during interpreting and the enlightenment and prospect for the future study.At the end of the report is the conclusion. Through the interpreting practice, the author has a preliminary understanding of talk show interpretation. It is a special kind of interpretation with different characteristics from general interpretation. Interpreters should combine well of both the interpreting theory and the practice.
