This paper focuses on the intermediate comprehensive textbooks Boyahanyu andFazhanhanyu.First, cultural factors in these books are classified, analyzing numbersin detail and its relative proportions. Second, observation on cultural tendencydetermines whether cultural factors are suitable or not. Finally, some suggestions areproposed for arranging cultural factors in the hope that Chinese teaching can benefitfrom it. These suggestions will also make outline-compiling easy.We learn from the statistics and data that:1.Integrity, contemporaneity, main-stream, learners’ perspective, comparison arerepresented in these books, but still differences lie in arrangement. For example,Fazhanhanyu focuses more on contemporary life, whereas Boyahanyu rests much ontraditional culture.2.Integrity, contemporaneity, and mainstream culture are represented to their best, but not learners’ perspective, let alone Asian culture.3.Lack of standards on outlines and classification causes difficulty for statisticsand analysis. Some suggestions are proposed to solve such problems on the basis of data:1.Making outline arrangement easier by composing a standard classification.2.Traditional cultural must be considered, including Asian one, while dealingwith contemporary and mainstream culture.3.Strengthening and enriching Teaching Chinese as a Second Language bylocating the position of cultural factors.
