Simulated simultaneous interpreting (SSI) practice, an innovative and effectiveteaching method, initiates a new model for SI training and provides chances forstudents to strengthen their simultaneous competence and develop their organizationability and interpersonal communication skills.The speech Why Do We Go to Universities delivered by Zheng Qiang, the formerpresident of Zhejiang University, in VOICE, is selected as materials to be interpretedin this thesis for SSI practice. The practice process is to be sound-and video-recordedand then be transformed into texts. All these recorded materials will be used tocomplete SSI practical report, documenting in detail the general task description andpreparation, SSI process and interpreting assessment. Then, interpreting difficultiesmet in the SSI process is classified and analyzed to get corresponding strategies inlight of deverbalization, which is the core of interpretative theory. In the end, theauthor summarizes the enlightenment from this SSI practice and offers hisexpectations on future SI practices.This SSI practical report manifests the necessity and practicability of thedeverbalization. During the on-the-spot SI process, the interpreter need to take goodadvantages of his understanding competence and get rid of the constraints of theoriginal language so as to develop his awareness and ability of informationrestructuring and innovative expressing.
