Different from traditional personnel management, contemporary human resource management (HRM) appeared in the late1960s, which advocates development-oriented personnel management in learning-oriented organizations. Contemporary HRM makes a contribution to enterprises in the aspect of strategy development. The HRM in China was developed in the early1990s and is now stepping into a human-centered strategic time. For HRM, China still lacks experience and advantages. Therefore, the translation of literatures and works from overseas is of great significance, which is helpful to China’s HRM.This thesis consists of two parts. The first part is the translation practice of15000English words. The translator selects the second chapter(Human Resource Management and Organizational Performance:in Search of the HR Advantage) of CONTEMPORARY HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGENMENT as the translation project. The second part is a translation report which consists of four chapters. Chapter one is the introduction to the translation project, including background, theoretical basis and significance of the translation project. The introduction to the authors, the content and the linguistic features of the source text are discussed in chapter two. Chapter three is case study. As an informative text, the translation of the source text is under the guidance of Skopos theory, and the difficulties were solved using some translation techniques, such as conversion, addition, division, linear translation and reversion. Chapter four is a conclusion. In this chapter, the translator summarizes translation experience and unsolved problems. From this translation project, the translator gains translation experience, not only in knowledge of HRM, but also in some translation techniques. In addition, it is hoped that this translation report can provide references to students majoring in MTI, and to those working in HR department of domestic enterprises.
