This paper is about the Chinese-English translation of Audio-visual Language by Lu Shaoyang. The source text comes from the introduction and the first chapter of “Image” in the twenty-first Century journalism and communication series of textbook Audio-visual Language. The introduction part mainly describes the process of film making, including the preparatory stage, in-shooting stage and post production. The first chapter mainly introduces the aesthetic features of image and other basic functions. The report is based on the introduction and the first chapter of Audio-visual Language, carries on the specific analysis of the problems existing in the process of translating in the area of film art, and summarizes the necessary procedures and methods.The content of this report consists of five parts. The first part is the introduction. And, this part is about the background, goal, significance and structure of the translation project. The second part is the task description. It includes introduction and analysis of the task. The third part is the task of the working process, the three stages of the translation report. The fourth part, the core content of this report, is a detailed analysis of the translation. This report discusses translation of film art guided by corresponding functional equivalence theory, Skopos theory and translation techniques. It also reviews the process of solving problems in translation practice. The last fifth part of the report is the summary, which includes inspiration in translating and problems, translation skills and experience throughout the process of translation.The case analysis and summary of the experience in translation practice indicate that the translator report concluded that the translation should possess the basic translation theory, background knowledge, technical knowledge, language ability, English language ability, readership and text function consciousness etc. It contributes to high efficiency and high quality of the translation. In this paper, multiple examples of translation process are analyzed with the functional equivalence and Skopos theory. Illustration of translating texts with prominent cultural elements is also included. It is hoped that useful reference for translation of technical articles is provided in this report.
