This report is about the author’ s consecutive interpreting practice in Guangzhou International Documentary Film Festival(GZDOC) in Dec.2013, the speech was delivered by documentary director and producer Jordan Paterson in an activity called Professional Forum in the festival. Before the task, the author had searched a lot of background information of this GDZOC and the client. After knowing the content of the speech(introducing Mr. Paterson’s new film “China on the Western Frontâ€), the author has searched for the parallel texts on the internet and found out an English version and a Chinese version. After analyzing the features of the parallel texts and the PPT of the speech obtained the day before the task, the author built a glossary list and highlighted the relevant message points. All these pre-task preparation material as references provide extremely valuable information for the practice and effectively relieved the psychological burden of the author. After the interpreting practice, the author analyzed the difficulties met in the practice and the coping tactics adopted. At last, the author concluded what she learned from the experience and summed up several points that need to be paid attention to in consecutive interpreting. Based on all those mentioned above, this report is supposed to serve as practical reference material for consecutive interpreters. |
