This is a translation project report on Chapter 10 of The Public Domain: Enclosing the Commons of the Mind entitled “An Environmentalism for Information”. The administration of public domain is a problem that every country has to face, and it is quite difficult to keep the balance between public domain administration and intellectual property protection. In this chapter, the author suggests that the policy makers and people who care about public domain should learn from environment protection movement to administrate public domain. The difficulties of translation lie in the translation of terminology and proper nouns, such as names, organizations, words about laws. In the article, there are a lot of long and difficult sentences. Those difficulties are obstacle to translation and understanding, so a lot of terms and phrases need to be explained for helping the readers to understand. With the guide of skopos theory, the translator uses amplification, division, reversion and other methods to make the translation fluent and meet the writing style of Chinese, and also try to express the author’s argument to the readers. Because of the limitation of the ability and situation, there are still some unsolved problems. The last part concludes with the lessons, summary and unsolved problems in the translation project.
