This is a translation report whose original text is excerpted from Recreation, Event and Tourism Businesswhose authors are Prof. Robert E. Pfister from Vancouver Island University and Prof. Patrick T. Tierney from San Francisco State University. The book discusses domain of recreation, event and tourism (RET) and the business plan involved with enterpreneurial and management works and also gives some more practical viewpoints.The translator puts Chapter 10 and Chapter 11 of this translation project into translation practice, then draws a conclusion from the translation process, translation difficulties and focal points as well as translation techniques. The translator uses Communicative Translation theory of Peter Newmark to guide the translation practice in the hope of hat target readers can comprehensive and appreciate in their familiar ways to obtain accurately contextual meaning, ideological contents and language form of the original text.This report consists of four major parts:the first part is the brief introduction to translation project, including the background, objective and significance of the project together with structure of the report. The second part is mainly about background of the Original Text, including the introduction to the author, version, major content, literary form and linguistic features. The third part offers a discussion about the translation difficulties and techniques, including the preparatory work before translation, the difficulties in translation and the techniques used. In the whole process, Newmark’s communicative translation theory is adopted as guidance to process the sentence structure in the original text, supplement semantics, adjust the logical relations and convert the impersonal. The fourth part summarizes some experience, suggestion and lessons learned during and after the process of translation. On the basis of analyzing the original text, this translation report aims at expounding on and analyzing the various problems popping up in the process of translating the textbook related to business, tourism from English to Chinese so as to provide reference for the translation of the similar texts.
