With the more and more frequent economic exchange, people discover the huge disparity of living standard between the west world and the third world. Many economists have researches the reasons for this difference. Translations about economy provide a good opportunity for scholars in China and the west world to communicate. This paper is a translation report on Economics:a Very Short Introduction. The author Partha Dasgupta, a famous economist, provides a very human exploration of a technical subject. With the guidance of Newmark’s translation theory, the translator translates the prologue, the first chapter and the second chapter of the book and discusses the application and significance of theory in the translation practice.The report contains five parts:introduction, literature review, text analyst, translation difficulties and solutions, and conclusion. The part of introduction introduces reasons for translating this text and its significance. The second part reviews Newmark’s translation theory. According to his text typology, the book belongs to informative text. The third part analyzes the text at lexical, syntactical and discourse levels. In the fourth part, the translator presents the difficulties and their solutions in the translation process and further discusses the translation strategy of informative text. The translator summaries the whole text and points out the limitations in the conclusion.
